Mr. Alasdair Philips was the Director of UK Powerwatch (www.powerwatch.org.uk) since 1988. He was Research Director of EMFields Solutions, Ltd, and Sensory Perspective, Ltd, for about 20 years, commercial enterprises that designed, manufactured, and sold EMF/RF measurement meters for the public, which are no longer trading.
With Roger Coghill and Chris Busby, Mr. Philips took a case to a UK court in 1998 on the need for Warning Labels on mobile phones. This resulted in the setting up of the UK Government funded Independent Expert Group on Mobile Phones (IEGMP) resulting in the influential “Stewart Report” (May 2000). He was a co-founder of ES-UK charity (es-uk.info/) in 2003.
He was a Founding Member of the UK Department of Health’s ELF EMF (SAGE) consultation process (2004-2010); Past Member (2006-2010) of Sir William Stewart’s UK Department of Health’s Health Protection Agency (HPA) EMF Discussion Group; Past Member of an EC (Brussels) Expert Group on public advice regarding EMF and Health. He has given professional advice to local authorities and presented Expert Evidence to the UK’s High Court & Public Inquiries.
Mr. Philips instigated and co-ordinated the CHILDREN with LEUKAEMIA (later Children with Cancer UK) International Scientific Conferences in Westminster UK on the causes, prevention, and treatment of childhood leukaemia (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019). He served as a Trustee of the Charity from 2016-2020 and was responsible for overseeing funding of research.
He was Co-organiser of the 2008 Radiation Research Trust conference held at the UK Royal Society “EMF & Health – A Global Issue – exploring precautionary approaches”.
He was a Co-author of the IGNIR – International Guidelines on Non-Ionizing Radiation’s EMF Guidelines https://ignir.org.
Mr. Philips has appeared many times on UK radio (R4, R5, and BBC World Service) and TV (BBC1, ITV, CH4, CH5, CNN and Sky News) He was a Member and served on the Steering Committee (1992-1996) of Scientists for Global Responsibility.
He has published many scientific articles in professional journals and authored books He has had a long-term interest in spiritual and personal development issues, and deep ecology.
